Remove Genieo Virus Completely from IE/Firefox/Chrome


This unwanted website Genieo replaces my homepage without my consent. I don’t know how to get my previous homepage back. This malicious domain is very stubborn. Every time I change the homepage setting by opening Internet options, Genieo still recurs when I open my browser. It is out of my control. Can anyone help me get rid of it completely? 

What is Genieo Virus?

Genieo Virus is categorized as a hazardous browser hijacker which causes the replacement of your search engine and set the start page of your web browser to Genieo. Due to this Genieo virus, you cannot gather any useful and helpful information with the search engine. That is because all the search result pages have been hijacked by this Genieo virus to various unwanted websites which are full of dazzling product ads and sponsored links. How to Remove Genieo Virus from your PC?

1. Restart your computer and keep pressing F8 Key before Windows launches. Use the arrow keys to select the "Safe Mode with Networking" option, and then hit ENTER Key to continue.


2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del at the same time to open Windows Task Manager and end Genieo process.


3. Go to Computer Control Panel from Start menu and open Folder Options. Click View and then tick “Show hidden files and folders” and uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)”. Press OK.


4. Press Winkey+R together then enter “regedit” to start your registry editor. Delete the following registry keys.


HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System "DisableRegistryTools" = 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\vir-help.exe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe

5. Delete the following and related system files.

C:\windows\system32\drivers\mrxsmb.sys(random)
C:\Users\user account\Appdata\Roaming

Note: Genieo virus is rather stubborn and malicious. It requests certain computer skills when you dealing with it in manual way. Any incident action could lead your machine to a more terrible situation.
